Psalms 40:1-8
Three ways to get find yourself in a pit:
A. Get thrown into a pit
B. We can slip into a pit
C. We can jump right into a pit
Get thrown into a pit - Gen. 37:4 - Joseph he was thrown into a pit not of his own doing.
Jeremiah 35:6 - Jeremiah was thrown in even after he obeyed God.
Psalms 40:11,12
We can slip into a pit - it's not what we planned but we find ourselves in one nevertheless. Gen. 50:20 - . . he meant it for evil but God meant it for good.
A pit is an early grave the enemy digs for us. Your enemy, Satan, wants to bury you alive.
We can jump into a pit. Psalms 19:12,13 - Who can discern their own junk? We need to pursue full throttle Godliness. Blamelessness - freedom from willful sin. A place where no area of sin is ruling over us.
God's word is true - our experience is not the plumbline. God's word is the plumbline!
Difference between reacting badly vs. proactive sin. Reacting badly you don't plan on sinning you react out of the sinful nature response. Proactive sin - you plan the thing out.
2 things all the pits have in common:
1. We can't get ourselves out of the pit
2. We can get out of it!
The ways we can get out of a pit:
1. A person can pull us out of it - caution the person who pulls us out can become in a person's mind their Savior. There's only one Savior! Ps. 40:2-4
2. God can pull us out of it!
A result of trusting in the Lord - Happiness! Ps. 40:2-4
